What did you think of "Jurassic Park III" or A.I.?greenspun.com : LUSENET : actualsize : One Thread |
If you saw either movie, what did you think? What do you think about the basic Hollywood formula: some action, some romance, and some moral that they beat you over the head with repeatedly?
Or am I just growing cynical?

I haven't seen Jurassic Park III, and since I didn't bother with the JP II, I probably won't go see III either.I *did* see A.I. I thought it was interesting, although you should know that every single person I've spoken to agrees that it should have ended when he was underneath the water, trapped. I thought the little boy did an excellent job in his role, and that the movie did make some interesting points on the emotional responsibility we take on with artificial intelligence. But it went too long. I felt insulted by the tacked-on Hollywood ending.

I'm not bothering with Jurassic Park - and I seem to be the only person who liked AI. In fact, I loved it, but I have a different take on it than everyone else. I didn't think it was sappy or sad, etc.. in the normal sense. I thought it was actually a pretty cynical view of artificial intelligence. The tear ot two I shed wasn't because I identified with the little boy, but because humans were twisted enough to do that (in the story). It's sort of like pulling the wings off of butterflies or like that sick brand of people who put kitty cats in grocery bags and toss them into swimming pools. Anyhoo...I can see why the average person didn't like it. In fact, the only people I know who enjoyed it are big geeky unsocialized sci-fi nerds like myself :)HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :-)
