What ate my peaches?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I planted a peach tree about 5 years ago. This is the first year it produced (about 30). Late frosts, etc. prevented peaches from maturing in previous years. I went out this morning thinking it should be close to time to pick them but they are GONE! They are not on the ground and there is no sign of any pits. I was raised in the city and am baffled sometimes about what the animals around here can do and get into, but WHAT DID THIS? thanks for any suggestions.

Nancy,Racoons are what have always gotten ours. This year we will have an outside dog and I hope to actually be able to eat our own fruit. The Racoons eat our pears also.

The squirrels used to drive me crazy with the peaches. But usually they didn't bother to carry them off. Just took one bite and left it on the ground.

It wasn't me.

I'd check with the neighbors!

Racoon or opossum would be my guess. They are both tree animals. Had the same thing happen last night to my plum tree. Only had about two dozen on it, and atleast I got the first half. Whatever it was ate the plum seed and all except for 2 or 3 halves that got spit out on the ground.
