A source for canning inserts?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

I used to buy canning inserts by the case a long time ago, but the company is no longer around. I hate buying them by the pack at the grocery store, and would like to know if anyone out there buys them bulk anywhere?

Karen, I agree 100%. We've searched for years and never found a bulk source. We called Lehmans, we posted on countryside, got nowhere. Never see them on sale, either, any time of year. PLEASE, if anybody knows of a source, share it!

Sin of all sins, I have to admit that I do re-use the inserts for some things. Some of them don't seal, but that makes the pigs happy.

"canning inserts" - explain please. Long time canner (from the age of 6) has never heard this term and wishes to be enlightened.

Extrapolating from what David posted, I think they mean what I call the lids -- the part that is supposed to be good only for one canning session, as opposed to the band, which can be reused quite awhile. Is that right?

Hopefully this will help.... I have ordered several times "lids" from E&R Seed 1356 E 200S, Monroe, IN. 46772, this is an amish ran seed/garden supplier....

they carry Bernardin lids (if I am correct they are out of Canada)... and the price in their 2001 catalog is

Lids Only

Wide Mouth $35.95/cs (a case being 30 boxes with 12 lids each)... or $34.95/cs for 2 or more

Regular Mouth $23.95/cs. (a case being 30 boxes)... or $22.95/cs for 2 or more...

I have used these lids for several years with great success... they are like "Ball" lids... white underneath with red rubber... and gold top... course, I like Kerr as I know they seal!!!

E&R carries the jar rubbers with a tab that go with the zinc screw down lids.. they regular and wide mouth size too..

E&S Seed have great prices on seeds and even carry many open pollinated seeds...great company to deal with...

hope this helps...

Karen... Braun is a familiar name from east central Ohio...where ya from???
