Pellets for young chickens??greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I have 2 year old chickens, and we bought another 8 pullets in April, so the pullets are 3 months old now. The pullets are on Chic Starter, but when can I start them on the layer pellets as all they seem to do is spread their (ground-up)feed all over the floor?

At 16 wks begin making the swith from chick starter to the lay ration. 20% increments is the least stressful on the bird being it's such a protein drop. At 16 wks feed them: 80% starter; 20% lay ration 60% starter; 40% lay ration 40% starter; 60% lay ration 20% starter; 80% lay ration 100% lay rationGood luck!

Oh dear, this is the 1st time i've posted on this board and that didn't post very clear. The tabs didn't take. Let me try again...At 16 wks begin feeding:
80% chick starter/20% lay ration
60% starter/40% lay ration
40% starter/60% lay ration
20% starter/80% lay ration
Because of the protein drop from chick starter to the lay ration, this proves to be the least stressful on the bird. Good luck!
