I'm a recent college grad and I've taken a few photo classes. Now, I want to get setup with a digital darkroom. Is there anybody out there that has some advice. I'm thinking of using a nikon slr, slide scanner and either printing on an epson printer or going to an online site like www.ofoto.com (they make traditional color prints from digital files). However, I would really like to shoot black and white and I don't have a better solution than a computer printer. Thanks, Ben

Get the book by Dan Burkholder, it shows you how to make digital negs, digital enlargement etc. It will be the easiest way for you to learn.

Ben, doing b&w with digital is a little trickier at this time than doing color. I strongly recommend you check out this web site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/epson-inkjet/ about digital printing, and especially b&w with Epson ink jets.

It is my understanding that slide/film scanners don't work all that well with b&w film except with the chromogenic [c-41 process] films like Ilford's XP-2. It is a great film, so that should not be a problem.

Also check out 'Piezography BW' inks and software at: http://inkjetmall.com. If you are planning on doing serious b&w work, you will want a system like that.
