Radar detectors

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

A question especially for American riders. Is there anybody who has experienced radar detectors. Are they safe or just electronic gadgets ? witch models buy or not ? Is there special model made for motorcycling (because of helmet)? I'm going to loose my license for 7 month and don't want that happens again, so I need one of these detectors if safe enough....

Best regards

Thats a webpage I found with radar detector comparisons. I would suggest researching on the web. The main concerns for motorcycle radar detectors are:
-radar bands/laser (which can the unit detect and how effective)
-visible/audible alarm (the pilot should be warned of incoming bogeys)
-mounting (where will the unit work effectively)
-power (battery powered or connected to the motorcycle)

I'm sure I missed a ton more info, the web is a great resource. 7 months of track days?

A lot of people love the Valentine One radar detector. It's not motorcycle specific but does perform great in all tests.

Bell and others make a battery powered model with a microphone that can be installed in your helmet so you can hear it... important!
