Hi! Does anyone out there knows if it is possible to convert real media video files to mpeg or avi? What software would do that?

There is a program called "This is not real anymore" that will convert real media files. I've never converted anything with it but it is supposed to work. Get it at http://evc.to/tinra/

"This is not real anymore" is better known as "tinra", but the link listed in the other post should still be good. Just a warning - Real Media is truly awful in terms of quality. I used tinra to convert a Real Media file I had and the results were awful, but to be fair, tinra probably did as well as it could with the source. My source was not all that great and I think it was a case of "garbage in garbage out". I don't think you can fully appreciate how terrible Real Media is for quality until you try to convert it. People use Real Media not because it's any good, but because it gives you small file sizes (this means faster downloads) at the expense of quality.

I have a better solution than TINRA. Sure, TINRA directly converts a Real Video file to .avi but the ending .avi file has a wrong framerate, or the audio and the video are out of sync, or frames many times get dropped altogether. Sure, some of those problems can get fixed using VirtualDub but that isn't always reliable. A better solution is to use Camtasia Recorder, TotalRecorder, and Dubit. Camtasia Recorder records the video portion of the video perfectly without any incorrect framerate, loss of frames, etc. Total Recorder perfectly records the audio portion directly from the sound card. After the video portion is captured by Camtasia Recorder and the audio portion is recorded by TotalRecorder, you then use Dubit to combine both the audio and the video portions. You now have a perfect .avi version of the Real Video file. If you then want to convert the .avi(which takes up a lot of memory) to an .mpg file(doesn't take up as much memory), you just use a program such as XingMPEG Encoder or QuickChange. Until there is a better version of TINRA to be put out or a better program to directly convert Real Video files to .avi or .mpg, the way I have described is the best way to convert Real Video files to other formats.

I find, that the most original yet best way to convert Real Media files into AVI format is:

You take the RAM file and shove it right up your rectum eh'.. Swish it around a bit, make a few grunting sounds, and blamo, you've got a perfect AVI/MPEG (whatever your fancy) conversion!

Oooooo that is definately the best way to go. I've never had such a grand converting experience in my LIFE! To hell with the Mpeg, gimme more ram "eh"!!!
