Wow! I'm new here and I just have to say how great this is after the countryside forum. I was half-afraid to ask questions over there! Might as well introduce myself while I'm flattering yall. I'm Elizabeth. 18 years old, just graduated, live in Northern VA, going to WVU in the fall. Got a bunch of crazy chickens and a job milking some crazy goats. Can't wait to start using yall as a resource for my future homesteading schemes!

Welcome Elizabeth! Have fun, kick back and kick in.

What the heck? I posted here and it disappeared? Maybe I used my BACK feature too soon and lost it . . . Confusing!Anyway, welcome aboard, Elizabeth. We will certainly try to answer anything you want to ask. I do encourage you to post questions over at CS too though. Lots of knowledgeable people that still manage to be polite. WE don't know everything! ;-)

Hi Elizabeth!'What Joy said!' (We channel each other from time to time)
You really will find a wealth of info about homesteading stuff over there, its true; but we have a tad of experience here too, so give us a try.
I think I know what you mean about bein "half-afraid' to ask questions; I know one has to feel safe to do so. We hope you can feel that safety here on this forum.
I just want to add, Elizabeth, that I for one am thrilled to see someone your age here! I have two teenagers myself, with whom I am very close, and after watching them consistently come in contact with situations/people who are disrespectful to young people, I decided to become an ole fart cheerleader/defender of youth!! I unequivocably believe that I learn way more from young folks than they ever learn from me. In fact, I believe the common view that we are here to bestow our vast wisdom on our youth is basically bullturds; pretty set in place to promulgate the status quo.
Speak free and often.....and teach us well.....
blessings,

Hi Elizabeth! You're going to love WVU, my alma mater. I hope you are ready for all the walking and the PRT. It is easy to use and generally convenient. Do you have a field of study picked out?Enjoy this site as there is something for each of us. Have fun.

-- Anonymous, June 22, 2001
Yep, I'm milking goats for money. Not much money, mostly for the experience (I've always wanted a goats and read about every goat and home dairy book I could get my hands on!) I'll be studying biology at WVU (I'm really excited! I have orientation on Monday). Thanks for the warm welcome!

Welcome Elisabeth! I milked goats when I was 18, but they were mine and it wasn't optional! Now that I'm 10 years older, I want to milk a goat again. I guess it's all the difference between must and can.Sheri and Earthmama, you are oxegen to my soul. I moved away from a more open minded area to a back corner and I really miss the open discussions of personal life choices and spirituality that were the norm back then. It's not unheard of for me to read your words to get comfort in a closeminded close hearted place.
Love in anylanguage (and age) fluently spoken here, eh?

Hi Elizabeth,Sorry I am so late with my welcome but here it is WELCOME!!! I milk a bunch of crazy goats myself and really like it. Hope school goes well and you keep us all posted as to what you are up to.

Another "crazy goat woman" here, Elizabeth. Welcome...you're in good...no make that great company!!! It's really nice to see folks your age take an interest in homesteading.

Well, I only have two goats, and I'm not God-less, and I have more sheep, chickens, ducks, and geese than I probably should have, but welcome! This is a very special forum, and the folks here are the best on the web!Eighteen, eh? Good for you! I had my dream of homesteading about then! It really is wonderful to remember some of that dream (I've forgotten much of it, no doubt!)
Welcome!

Hey Elizabeth,I think we'll be asking YOU the questions pretty soon! I've got a big bunch of goats too. Saanens and Alpines, love em, but they only love me cuz I feed them! I tell them that too. One little joy is Violet, who, when she runs outta feed on the milkstand, squats. She's soooo nice to me. They will run me over in a New York minute to get the feed bucket, and won't look back either. Goats, gotta love em!

Sheepish, the Godless Goatwomen was in reference to a remark made about this forum on one of the other forums, and then Earthmama came up with the Goatless Goddesswomen name for those of us who don't have goats. In truth, what we really have on this forum are:Godless Goatwomen
Godfull Goatwomen
Goatless Goddesswomen
Godfull Goatless women
The men will have to come up with their own names! :-)
