microwaving foods & paper towels & kool whip tubsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Noticed the discussion going on 'bout papertowels and had sort of a related question. Many of us use those handy things in the microwave. i.e. putting bacon on them, and a p.towel over it to cook. Also, use the koolwhip tubs in the m. oven too. Anyone out there heard of info that indicates this might be harmful? Appreciate it. Thank You :-)

Microwaving reused commercial packaging has for some time been questioned due to the possibility of residual or catalyst contamination. Most health experts adise disposing of them after the purchased product has been consumed or at least transfering food stored in a reused recyclable container to glass dishware for waving to avoid the possibility of microwave catalyst contamination as those containers are not microwave designed.

My standard is the only thing the microwavable 'container' gets used for, is to get the item home. It goes into glass or Corningware for the microwave.just my view.

Here is what it say's at Scott's answer web site, Is it safe to use SCOTT® Towels in the microwave? SCOTT® Towels are designed for a wide variety of household wiping and cleaning purposes. However, if the product is used for microwave cooking we recommend that you always note the precautions and follow the guidelines outlined in the microwave oven owner’s manual. Do not dry herbs, vegetables, or flowers on paper towels in the microwave oven. Any paper product can burn during microwave cooking if conditions are right. And this is what it says in my owner's manual, Do not use recycled paper products as they may contain impurities which may cause sparks or fires. Do not use paper towels which contain syntheic fiber woven into them. the synthetic fiber may cause the towel to ignite. And under the Cookware & utensil section: Paper towels & napkins: use for reheating rolls and sandwiches.

I've had my microwave for 30 years - wonder if they're made that well today -LOL- and I use a lot of paper toweling. I've never had a problem. It's the old....why dirty a dish!
