Richard Allen and determination

As it get's closer to Annual Conference, I get more and more excited. Especially when I think about Richard Allen and what he started in philadelphia. What courage and love he had for all people. What can we still learn from Richard Allen that we can use to continue to build our great denomination?

I believe one important lesson Bishop Allen provided for future AME members is to remain focused on things essential [i.e God, salvation of mankind, human uplift, etc.]in life. This may sound simple, self- evident and somewhat trite, but in practice it can be a hindrance to many. QED

Our founder,Bishop Allen had an awesome spirit. The quality that I admire most in him was His spirit of preserverance. He had to work a long time to save up the $2000.00 to purchase His freedom. I am sure that there were days that he just wanted to give up. He worked until he was able to leave the plantation a free man. He took another giant step when he walked our of St George's. He was determined that African Americans would be able to worship God with dignity. As 21st century AME'S, we are faced with many challenges. Crime, Poverty, and racism plague our people. As People Of the Cross and Anvil, we must adopt Allen's spirit of preservance. If you are a pastor with a small, fledging congregation, don't give up! Stay on your knees and pray until you hear from God. After you hear from Him, get up and take you city for Christ. To the lay people, do not grow weary in well doing. Please pray for and with you pastor. God has raised us up to be the mighty people of God. The task is before us. Let's work!

Wow! Rev. Davis thank you, thank you for your powerful words of encouragement. Your message is one that should be preached at every annual and general conference! One of the things that I love about Richard Allen is the movement of the Holy Spirit in his life. His heart was open to the will of God! As the daughters and sons of Richard Allen, I hope we will have his pioneer spirit and have "visions of possibilities." As I study the history of the AME church evangelism was a top priority! Traveling across this country, dealing with racism and the possibilities of lynching to plant churches in the south, west, Canada, and Mexico. Thank you again for pointing how Richard Allen persevered and never gave up his dream for freedom!
