Joy: Lost my farmer telephone line! Been using friends computers in town some but I don't want to be a pest. Pac Bell should be letting me know how much they will charge me to bring in a line. Gulp! Thanks for thinking of me! I should be up and running soon and until then I'll check in when I can....Kirk

Kirk,Have you considered a free nights and weekend cellular. If your in tower range they work pretty good and it would avoid line costs.

What about a dish and Net2phone on the computer? Anyone tried that yet? Must be cheaper than running a phone line. My former ISP is now a Radio Shack dealer and he sells the dishes. He said they are fast, but the price should come down and a few kinks need worked out.Jay,what are your thoughts on the dish and net2phone or similar?

I could get a very fast connection on my Dish Network without a phone line if I upgraded my reciever. BUT, I got this new computer 1 1/2 years ago for 200 (printer too) if I signed up for MSN for 3 years. In a year and a half when it's up, I think I'm going to go the Dish Network way. You can be on line 24 hours a day (it's always connected) and still make calls on the phone. If you get a celular phone, you can totally disconnect from the phone company and save that 25 a month just for the hookup from the phone co.

I tryed a cell phone and can't get a thing on it. Are you guys talking about a satilite dish and useing the phone thu the computer? Is that the same dish that they use for t.v.? Does the dish use a lot of electricity? I haven't heard from the phone company about the cost yet but I think I'll compare with a dish. 1700 bucks was the price when I last checked about the line but there is a couple more familys moved in since then. Aaaaa living in the boonies does have a bit of a down side once in a while!!!.....Kirk
