Nikon EM - Help!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I have an old Nikon EM that was given to me. I'm looking for a zoom lens to use. I was told that Vivitar had a compatible zoom. I purchased one off Amazon.com - it didn't fit. Now I'm trying to decide if I should purchase a new Vivitar Camera to use the zoom with? I've been searching the pawn shops and internet for a zoom for the Nikon EM - having no luck. Should I just retire this camera and go new?

Any Nikon or Nikon mount lens will work on your camera. It sounds like Amazon sold you the wrong lens. Amazon is a book seller at best try a real photo store. EM s were great basic cameras if you are comfortable with the camera keep it if not try a point and shoot camera or a basic SLR camera like the Nikon N65.

it is possible that your Vivitar lens was in fact a Nikon mount, but an early pre-AI version. Your EM camera requires AI or AIS lenses, including autofocus models which can be used as a manual focus lens.

Older used manual focus lenses for Nikon are readily availible at great prices in any decent camera store. mail order is fine, but a real hands-on test in a store is worth the extra couple of dollars... not to mention that you walk out with the lens that day.

As pointed out above, you have a huge range of lenses from the last 25 years that will fit the EM, including the current generation AF lenses including almost every Nikkor and Nikon zoom ever built.

If you are looking for a Nikon Series E lens 75-150, once part of Nikon's "economy" series (much less economy in build than most pro lenses these days), these go for $150-225 on ebay, often, and also show up in the classifieds in www. photo.net
