I have several questions. It has taken me so long to find a site that I could ask questions on.I have been doing alot of reading at different sites and have learned so much but need so much more. My camera is a Minolta Maxxum QT si. These questions are for an up coming graduation that I really want to be right. 1) can I use drop in filters on this camera? 2)What kind of flash should I use with a 300m lense with a 2x teleconverter? 3)Can I use an auto nightmode in a large gym? 4)Why am I not able to use my camera's auto macro mode with my 300m lense?

"1) can I use drop in filters on this camera?" Drop in filters are used for certain large/long or very wide lenses. What lenses do you have? Do they have drop in filter slots?"2)What kind of flash should I use with a 300m lense with a 2x teleconverter?" What is the maximum aperture of this lens? I'll assume f/5.6. You need a whoppin' big flash for that combo. putting the 2X on it will result in a 600mm f/11, long & slow. Get a minolta 5400, you'll need every bit of it. If the 300mm is an f/2.8 you'll be better off. Also use really fast film and make sure you have it mounted on a tripod.
"3)Can I use an auto nightmode in a large gym?" Yes, but the shutter speeds will be very slow if you use that 300mm with the 2X. If your subject moves they will be blurry.

I think you meant the sheet filters like Cokin? If so, yeah. There are adapters for virtually ALL filter ring sizes to use either the A or P size system.
Get a 5400hs flash. It is very powerful and also allows off camera cordless flash.

Kirk has a "flash extender, a little light cone with a fresnel lens at the front that bundles the light from a flash and is recommended for 300mm and longer (to give + 2 ev of flash output). search in Yahoo for Kirk plates ...
