What are the worst conditions you've lived in (or looked into living in, as in my case)?

well, i live with a girl (s) (we're the ones on the lease) and then my now-ex-boyfriend (j), and then there's a guy that lives on our couch (a). j and i have lived together here for the last 2 years, but we broke up last month because he was cheating on me. mind you this girl lives right across from us. and until i got brave last week and yelled at him, we still slept in the same bed, because he thought that was okay. now he lives in the living room with a, and s, a, and i all pretty much hate him, but he doesn't want to move out, or help us clean or anything.it's like a fscking soap opera here (that being the shortshort version) heh

My room. Last night I came in to find a grasshopper perched on my bed (right next to the pile of washing and books). This would have been find except for two things, 1. My bedroom is on the second floor, far, far away from any other rooms and gardens. 2. My windows haven't been opened in close to three years. I called my father to come and take it away but her refused to enter and told me how to get rid of the grasshopper. So one broken glass and several pieces of cardboard later the grasshopper was safely outside and doing whatever grasshoppers do.Recognising that this was a terrible way to live I started to tidy my bedroom. I gave up upon discovering a newspaper from May 3rd 1998 and am now sleeping in a spare room until I can be bothered cleaning my own.

When I was about five, my parents were unemployed and to stay alive, they did silly short-term jobs, which I was always dragged along on, like delivering phone books. (Actually, the phone book thing seemed to last forever - at least, some of the journeys to deserted farm houses did.) One such task was to stay in and clear up what they christened "The Messy House", presumably to make it sound better than it was: someone had been murdered there. We stayed there for two nights, during the course of which the car was broken into. I don't remember much else, but it's probably better that I can't. We left the job unfinished.Now I've thought about that, I feel glad to be living in a room with a permanently-dripping tap, a springless matress and a radiator that gets hot but emits no heat whatsoever. It's May and I'm shivering in a bulky sweatshirt and a thick coat . . .

Heheheh. Where I live now:
* Mouse poo in the cupboards
* Ants
* Silverfish
* Boyfriend's ceiling leaked, then caved in, took 6 months to fix
* No screens on windows
* Carpet so dirty, I spilled red juice and it wiped up brown
* Bathtub too disgusting to clean
* Toilet leaks and water runs to the center of the floor
* Disgusting landlord who tried to come in my bedroom while I was asleep, and also sneezed and blew a snot on my floor
* Roommate who pees on the floor and doesn't wipe it up, spills pop and doesn't wipe it up, leaves garbage everywhere
* Bathroom door doesn't lock
* Boyfriend's bedroom door has no hinges, so it must be picked up and placed in the frame
* Landlord walks in whenever he wants O_o
* Crazy guy downstairs who has no thermostat and is always too cold comes up and threatens us regularly (he moved out though, took his brand new tv and vcr and left his wife who is actually NICE down there, and the landlord told her she had to be out the next day)
* Disgustingdisgustingdisgusting
* I feel so gross there, I never feel clean even right after I shower. I'm not there right now, I'm at my parents' house, and I feel so sparkling clean. Gah?? I want to get OUT of there! P.S. Hi Denise! Hehe.

Before moving in to my current apartment, I lived in a studio. Now, although I complain alot about having a roommate, its actually nice to have someone else in the house sometimes. The studio was pretty much solitary confinement.It was an inlaw type of place, built in the basement of someone's house. My "reserved parking spot" was actually a dirt patch next to her driveway. I ended up not parking there for fear I'd puncture a tire trying to hop the curb in my Dodge Neon, not really an offroad vehicle. To get in to the apartment, I had to go through her backyard gate, enter the garage, get past her crap and there was my front door. Good luck if I had an visitors. Most of them knocked on the little window in my kitchen, while others would try to use the little doorbell system I rigged up. Okay, so once in, you'd enter a tiny hallway to get into the main [living, dining, family, bed, den room]. All within this room was everything you need to live, including the kitchen on the other side of the counter. I do have to say that nearly have of the overall apartment area was taken up by the bathroom, a huge ass bathroom. I stored half of my food, clothes and supplies in there. Okay, so what made it soooo bad.
Well, I had no control to the heater. She left in on 24/7, and in a studio it gets pretty hot down there. I'd have to say on average it was between 85-90 degrees. My guests would leave after ten minutes, I'd just leave fans going all the time.
There was a water leak. I didnt know about it, until one day I had cleaned out a closet and piled some boxes in a corner. When I moved the boxes they were soaked through.
There were mice. The reason I was cleaning out the closet was because little quarter sized mice started running around the apartment. I didnt realize it until I started finding mouse droppings all over the place... and one morning I woke up and the sofa sleeper I slept in had mouse droppings on the arm of the sofa, near my head. I ended up with sleep deprevation after that one.
The exhause fumes nearly killed me. Well, when you put an apartment in your garage and park your car down there, there's bound to be an issue with carbon monoxide poisoning. She'd start her car every morning and the fumes would fill up my apartment... ack.
I had a great view of the Pacific Ocean from my tiny little windows. It was great. The problem was that I couldnt leave the drapes open because the windows were in her backyard right at eye level, so anyone back there would be able to see in very clearly. One was in the kitchen facing the main room and the other was in the bathroom facing the shower.
Anyhow, she was a nice lady, until she refused to give back my deposit and I had to sue her ass... but thats another story.

Well, it was short-term living conditions...but three weeks can seem like a hell of a long time in Poland. Mostly stayed at my aunt's apartment, where I'd wake up during the night, blearily stumble toward the bathroom, and find roaches glaring at me with attitude from the toilet. Turns out, all the apartments there have roaches.Then, while there, I went to a friend's wedding in Lublin...stayed at the hotel where the reception was, and it was supposedly this classy place, judging by the ballroom and all. Went into my room with some friends at 3 a.m., dead tired, and found...a hovel. Straw mattress, communal bathroom shared with about 25 random people, dirt everywhere, a carpet I didn't want my *sneakers* to touch, much less my bare feet. It was like the seediest joint, only supposedly, it wasn't. I'd hate to see the cheap places, then...
