an idea to make or save money

first of all, let me give credit to The Dollar Stretcher, that's where i got this.

********* A Penny Saved...

Laid off of your job? Strapped for money in this current downsliding ecomony? Everyone knows the saying--a penny saved is a penny earned. But take a closer look at all those pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters that you throw in a jar or piggy bank...especially pennies!

They may be worth hundreds, even thousands of dollars! It will take some time, but it's certainly worth it. Go to www.coinsite.com (or using your search engine and key words "coin worth") to any other numismatic site and research what coins may be worth more than their face value. Then go through all your coins, pitching in one jar what might be worth some money, pitching in another jar what is worthless. For example, did you know that the 1970 S penny in mint condition is worth at least $50 and 1946 penny is worth nothing, despite it being much older. Defectively printed coins are also worth money. For example, the 1983 penny was printed twice and looks blurry. It is worth a lot of money.

Go to your local coin/collectable dealer or coin shows and sell that coin. It's a gold mine that you didn't know existed and who knows, you may have that ultra valuable coin that is simply collecting dust when you could be collecting big bucks when you are strapped for extra money. Helen

i just wanted to share this with everyone, you never know you might get lucky and make some extra money

"MIGHT get lucky" are the key words here. I did this sort of thing back in the 70's when there was still some silver coinage floating around in circulation. Today it's almost impossible to find any silver and as for the rarer pennies of modern times, they usually have to be in "mint state" condition to be of any value to speak of. While it's fun to go through change if you have the time I'd reserve it for a hobby, not a real money maker. I've got a complete set of Lincoln pennies about 99% of which came from circulation. It doesn't have much value though.

Might find something worth over face is right. I buy, sell, trade and collect coins and it surprises most people to find I never look through my change in my pockets. Sorry but in my 40 years of doing this I have never found anything really worth the effort. Mabey you will be lucker than me. And as for the 70s penny being worth $50.00, most are just pennies. There are some that have a collector value but only in mint state, that means brand new just as they came from the mint, never touched. Currently these are advailable for $20 dollars a piece, I am right now looking at an ad offering them for $1000 dollars a roll of fifty. The chances of finding rare coins is scarce to none. But if you enjoy searching go for it, my eyes have been strained too much in the past. If you have questions ask and mabey I can answer some of them.
