Any Michigan Countrysidersgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I have gone thru the anyone from section and I did not find Michigan on there so I figured I would see if there is ANYONE!!!! that lives in Michigan and reads Countryside or/and homesteads, fulltime, parttime, etc. and are having a hard time like I am keeping to the plan and maybe would like to help each other with e-mails,etc., keep to the plow. I am finding it very hard to do with no one else to talk to about it the rest of my family is really not into it like I am and want to be. I live 15 miles north of Ann Arbor.

Not Michigan, but just across the river from Algonac. I am in Ontario, but right against the border to the US. We manage quite well off our 7 acres, but hubby still works off the farm. Maybe someday.....

We live on a farm in western PA, but my younger daughter attends U of Mich in Ann Arbor. I know this is of no help to you . . . she loves her semesters at school because she can get away from having to live "way out in the boonies" with just cats, dogs, bugs and no close civilization. I just thought I would add my Michigan connection to the conversation. Sorry I couldn't help other than to commiserate with your lack of family support of the homestead lifestyle. Neither of our daughters are thrilled about our new lifestyle . . . but they are 18 and 20 yrs old now. I stayed in the burbs with them for >17 years, now it is my turn to live where and how I want! Maybe when I get grandkids, they will like the country.Keeping the homesteading faith in PA,
Lyn

Hi Tom - - I'm a Michigander as well. I live in Blanchard and am surrounded by Amish. Needless to say, I have lots of inspiration - - almost too much. Sometimes it's hard going off to work when I see the Amish already in the fields - - their life seem so simple and uncomplicated. . . . . someday. . . .

Tom - I'm here, right between Grand Rapids and Lansing. Good to see other folks from the Great Lakes State. How are you homesteading, full time, with horses, etc. Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm in Indiana now, but my parents and siblings all still live on the family farm located about halfway between Flint and Port Huron. I usually make the trek home at least a couple of times a year.

Well I'll be!!!! We are alive and kicking in the state of Michigan after all. A big •Thank You• to all of you who have responded both here and privately, and for helping me get excited again about homesteading and knowing there are people around me that are actually doing it.

Hi Tom, Thought I'd add another Michgander to your list. We are between Traverse City and Gaylord where it is suppose to frost tonight! Got to cover the cherry tree who decided to blossom just a little early. It is great to see Michigan well represented and I know there must be some in the U.P. Take care,

I don't get on this forum too much, but I'm from the southeastern part of the state (South Rockwood). Between Monroe and Detroit.

We are also from Michigan, but we're in the UP! We are about 30 minutes from Escanaba, with 20 acres. We have 3 German Shepherd dogs, 3 Alpine goats, 3 rabbits and about 25 chickens. We garden, homeschool, and are very blessed to be homesteading up here. We've been up here for 2 1/2 years, after moving from SE Wisconsin. (Hubby works 7 miles from home at a small factory!) Praise the Lord, Life is Great!

Another lurker,The wife and I Just moved up here (Moorestown) three weeks ago. Actually its taken us three years to get off of the grid. People down below (troy) always say But theres nothing to do in the boondocks. Ha if they only knew there is always some thing to do on a ten acre farm. We just started planting the garden yesterday and only got in half of what we wanted before the rain came. Theres always tomorrow. Dont despair, It all takes time. From the Pines Ron And Mary B

I'm in Michigan... north of Flint. I'm not a "homesteader"... but I'm really looking into becoming one! We are looking at some property now to get out of the city! We are so sick of the city and Genesee County! Don't bother visiting! NOthing to see here! LOL!I have to say that I love this board... is there a board for introductions, by the way?
Blessing to all! Wendy & Brad Eaton

If you read the magazine carefully and note the addresses (email only aside) you will find bunches just in the contributors. We are here smack in the middle of nowhere. Our address is Lake (town 10 miles to the north) Our phone is Barryton (5 miles to the west) Did I mention that neither of these cities (villages?) is is our county? We are just getting started on our little nine acre plot. It seems like we see a deer per mile of road when we go for a drive. They were even nice enough to keep the rose bushed pruned up when the house was vacant last winter.
When you are living on the land instead of above it you will never be alone.
