Did Poe ever keep the corpse of his wife in her casket under his bed for two years?

I cannot believe this. I have loved this tormented soul since the age 6. And have read story after story of his life, and do not recall this one. Someone heard it on some FOX television show.

Please help. S. Walters

Sheree,

Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe died on January 30, 1847 in Fordham, New York. She died from tuberculosis and was laid to rest in the Valentine family vault in the Dutch Reformed Church on February 2, 1847. Sounds like the Fox network may have gotten the idea from his tale "The Oblong Box". The idea is just silly nonsense as is much of the silliness about Poe.

Regards,

Virginia's coffin was later exhumed, supposedly to be reburied alongside Edgar. The coffin WAS under somebody's bed for two years, but I can't remember whose?? Not Griswold's I hope. That treacherous detractor started a lot of these kinds of rumors, when in fact HE himself had been caught inside his wife's mausoleum beside his wife's corpse. At the most Poe had frequented his wife's grave at odd hours, confused and inconsolable.
