Just keeping you posted on my gardening progress...we had THE FIRST PEA SHOOT, a happy little guy waiting for his brothers and sisters to join him. Onions are doing SWELL...do I save them and replant again next year? Minus the green tops, of course.

Hi Betsy! What kind of peas did you plant? I planted "Mr Big" for shelling peas, it's supposed to be good for eating fresh and freezing. I also planted "Sugar Sprint" sugar snap peas. They are supposed to be short enough that they don't need support. So far so good!

I planted "Waldo." I know nothing about them, unfortunately! My boyfriend bought them because he loves peas.

I couldn't find anything about "Waldo" peas. I did find a variety called "Wando", could this be it? Here's the info on it from the Burpee cataolg. Our most productive pea in warm weather. Also tolerant of cold for early sowing. The sweetness of garden peas is legendary. The best way to stretch the harvest is to plant early and late varieties. 68 days. Our most productive pea in warm weather. Also tolerant of cold for early sowing. Blunt, dark green pods with 7-8 medium-sized peas. Fine quality fresh or frozen. Ht. 30". Direct-sow in early spring, again in midsummer for a fall crop. Outstanding winter crop in Zones 9-11. 200-225 seeds per packet, sows about 30' of row; one lb., 240'. Our seeds are not treated. Sun.
Since they only get 30" tall I don't think that you'll need to string netting. What do you experienced gardeners think?

Sherri, thank you so much for your interest! I'm sure it is "Wando." Right now they're in little starter pots in our greenhouse, so I guess they'll have to get transplanted, if only to boxes. We haven't decided where our outdoor plot is going to be yet. And I know nothing about netting! Maybe I should post a question about this?

I'm envious, Betsy. :-)It's been so wet here that I haven't been able to plant much of anything - even with having raised beds!
Oh, well - I'm hoping to get some stuff in the ground in the next few days...
