If you want to know, go to the piano & count them.

I'm not sure about the exact number, but I already heard 220.

There are 88 keys on the keyboard. Sixty-six of them have 3 strings. [66 x 3 = 198] The last 22 keys on the keyboard only have 2 strings each. [22 x 2 = 44] That means the piano has [198 + 44] 242 strings.

Actually, it depends on the piano. THe concert grand steinway has more strings than my piano. Mine has 1 string for the first 16 notes, 2 strings for the next 16 notes, and the remaining notes have 3 strings each. That is a total of 216 stings (if I remember right).

THe Steinway concert piano has more strings than this as it has more base strings. Can't give you specifics, cuz I don't have one near by.

Sorry about my earlier post, there is an error. (You made me go home and count my strings!) My piano has, starting in the base section, 12 single strings, 20 double strings, and the rest are triple strings (per note).. Add that up and you get 204 strings. Just so you know.
