Can a metamorphic rock have both directed and confined pressures if so how?

from what i read on pages 171 and 172 of our text, it seems that it would be likely that both confining and direct pressure could occur at the same time. As direct pressure is being acted upon a rock say from it being squeezed between 2 masses, it could also be acted upon by the atmosphere pushing down on it.

Yes. Because it forms from heat and pressure.
