Freezer problems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

My deep freezer decided to die a most inconvient death. It still tries to blow cool air, but there isn't any to be blown. The lights in the house dim each time the compressor tries to kick on. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with it? Aside from the fact that it is 16 or 18 years old, I forget which. I really don't want to call a repair man as he will charge at least $100 dollars to fix it, and $45 to tell me he can't. I should have been an appliance repairman.

Sure I know whats wrong with it! It's BROKEN! LOL!!!! Apparently the compressor is attempting to start and can't or won't. Assuming that nothing has changed in the power suppling the freezer---I'd check the capacitor first. I doubt if that's it but could be. Probably a compressor thats give up the ghost. OH btw,--i'd make a service call down thar but s'pose that's outta the question! ole hoot. Matt.24:44

Well, if you decide to take a course in appliance repair, and I take one in lawn equipment repair, betrween us we could have the economic base of a small country in relatively no time at all.

You're right, Doreen. We could get stinkin' rich!!! Or at least save ourselves some money. Hoot, I'm afraid you're right. I think I'll just let it all dry out real good and store canned goods in it. I could use the shelf space any way. Looking for a bright side, I guess I'll save on the electric bill now. LOL

I saw its the coverter operator which will malfuntion due to the cooler not being supplied with enough frre-on. This is naehgrlaavbfdsjbnasdljldsghlfsd1111!

check the starter relay. It should have no continuity when it is right side up. Then turn it over and it should have continuity. This is because of a magneto inside that is drawn up by magnetic induction to temporarily complete the circuit.
