Hi! I'm from Germany and I've seen in a TV program, that the Americans always eat pancakes (or how they name it) for breakfast. But I'm from Germany and here you don't know how to cook this pancakes. Please give me any reciepe with which I can cook easily pancakes. Thank you very much!Mercedes

We eat pancakes for supper. I'm not awake enough in the morning to tackle that much work.

Heavenly PancakesOk, I will be the first to admit it... I love breakfast! Anytime of day. My wife has learned, through experience, when she asks me to cook supper, pancakes, eggs, coffee and other breakfast goodies will be on the menu. I am not a waffler, or even a toaster... I am a pancaker. I have proabally cooked 600 pancakes in the last few years. And every batch was different from the last. I don't use the 'usual' pancake ingerdients. I like playing with them. So let me share some of my favorite reciepes. Even if you just like breakfast for breakfast, these are sure to please. -Fresh berry pancakes 1 cup ready made pancake mix (regular or buttermilk doesn't matter) 1-2 eggs 1 cup milk 1 cup Jiffy (or other brand) corn bread mix 1 cup fresh berries (blackberries or raspberries are best) 2 tablespoons sugar Mix to desired consistancy (thick makes thick pancakes, thin makes thin, crispier ones). Makes about 6 6inch pancakes. Coat with butter and real maple syrup. -Peach Pancakes 1 1/2 cups ready made pancake mix 2 eggs 3/4 cups milk 1 cup mashed up canned peaches. Seperate juice and save for later. Home canned peaches in light syrup are best. 1/2 cup cake or muffin mix, or cornbread mix Mix to desired consistancy. Makes about 6 pancakes. Use saved peach syrup on pancakes. Lay 3 -4 slices peaches between pancake layers and on top.
-Muffin Mix Pancakes 1 package White Lily Blackberry muffin mix (other brands work equally as well) 1 egg 1/2 cup pancake mix 1 1/2 cups milk Mix to desired thickness. Turn when bubbles in center start to break. Makes about 6 pancakes.
-Don't be afraid to use: Poundstone cake mix, apples, banannas, vanilla, cimanon, etc. If I can cook pancakes and have them turn out good, most anyone can, too!
Exerpt for Homestead Monthly Pre mixed pancake flour contains: well, shoot, I dont have a box to read off of right now, somebody help me out on that one. Americans often put butter and maple syrup over the pancakes as served.

Mercedes: Here is a very easy recipe to make basic pancakes: In a bowl, mix 1 cup flour, 1 Tablespoon sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 3/4 cup milk, 1 egg, and 1/4 cup vegetable oil. Beat well. Pour batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto a hot, greased griddle. Turn when bubbles form on top of pancakes. Cook until the second side is golden brown. Makes about 8 pancakes, or two servings. Our favorite is buckwheat pancakes. Not sure if you can get buckwheat flour in Germany or not but it's the basic recipe with buckwheat flour instead of regular white flour.I like peanut butter between two pancakes with homemade applesauce on top and covered with syrup. Yummy, I hungry!

Hello Mercedes, When you are cooking the pancakes allow them to bubble before you flip them over. If you flip the over too soon they will be mushy inside. If you flip them over too late they will be burnt. Traditionly, pancakes are served with maple syrup. We use imitation maple syrup for the most part because, REAL maple syrup is very hard to come by (in this part of the US) and is expensive when you find it. Add your favorite fruit to the batter. My wife will gather berries from the woods here during the warm months and freeze them. They are like "a taste of sunshine" in the middle of winter. I really do not think that Americans as a whole eat pancakes all of the time. TV portrays Americans differently than we really are. Many Americans are in a rush in the mornings and usually eat what is quick to prepare and serve, (like a bagel and coffee, or cereal and juice). Pancakes take a little time to make and eat. I love pancakes any time of day for any meal. Butter and syrup are a must. I prefer buttermilk pancakes and make them using homemade biscuit mix , buttermilk, and eggs according to the istructions from a storebought biscuit mix box. They are divine with a capital D. PS: I am in Canada and most community breakfasts have pancakes but I know few people that eat them every day..actually I don't know anyone who eats them everyday! ;o) Also, I prefer mine plain without fruit and cooled pancakes spread with strawberry jam are a great snack anytime of day or night!

we love potato pancakes!! I use up leftover mashed potatoes in the mix. Also homemade maple syrup on top!! The kids like peanut butter pancakes and chocolate pancakes too. Parents like applpancakes as well. WE eat them any time I wantto makethem for any meal!! They are a versatile meal.
