In the notes it states: Reefs -- buildup of limestone from coral skeletons. Can anyone be more specific? Also, what is the time period for creation of reef?

Most reefs of today are constructed from the build-up of Millions and millions of Carbonate skelatons. They are built of coral which helps them to resist the flow of the tides in the ocean. See page 161 in the text.Dan
