Hi - my husband and I are about to make the big leap from urban farming to serious land, and are moving to the Schoharie Valley, near Cobleskill in a few months. I'd love to get the inside scoop on local culture from someone.

I'm in Walton, New York in Delaware County about 45 minutes from Cobleskill. I have information on several upcoming events up there that you might be interested in. The end of April is a American Livestock Breeds Conservancy fair where you can see and get information on all types of rarer breeds, from horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs , and poultry. Good way to meet other homesteaders. Also in June there will be a statewide sheep show with a National Tunis sheep show. Contact me for more information and I can also give you names of friends living in Cobleskill as well as info on 4-H clubs, etc. in that area. Welcome to New York. Where are you coming from?

We lived in the village of Schoharie about 8 years ago. We now live a little bit more upstate. The village has a very small town atmosphere. Cobleskill is much larger. Hope you are prepared for the winters! Even though we are farther north, the Schoharie Valley seems to get more snow than we do. It's beautiful in the spring and summer. Would love to hear how the move works out for you!

Kate, could you post the dates and some info on the show you mentioned? Sharon, I was born and raised in Windsor, I don't think Cobleskill is far from there. I've been out of this area for a looong time, just came back a few years ago. My biggest complaint is the weather!
