All right, I remember seeing quite a few Aeon Flux episodes on YTV (Canadian youth station that's carried a few MTV properties such as Aeon and The Maxx) about four years ago. I remember seeing an add for the first video way back when. I've kept it in the back of my head for a while now.

Yesterday at Future Shop I saw the Aeon Flux DVD. My question to you guys--is it worth it? On one hand it's sitting right there in the store, on sale. I wouldn't have to worry about ordering over the 'net or depending on Tower Records or whatever to try and get their hands on a copy for me...Then again, the DVD doesn't have all that much material on it, does it? From what I've gathered from skimming through these boards, the VHS boxed set has just about EVERYTHING of Aeon Flux. Would I be wiser in going for the single DVD, ordering the boxed VHS set, or waiting patiently for more DVDs to come out and eventually be packaged as a set? Is it likely that more DVDs will be released?

Also, about the DVD, is it an exact copy of one of the videos, or was MTV actually smart and packaged the first Aeon DVD with all the material from the FIRST season? I hear there are no extras or menus, which sounds kind of discouraging. Hmm...

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think there are any plans on releasing any more Flux on DVD, but if you have a player, I'd definitely recommend getting the DVD. It's identical to the first (red) Flux Video, and it doesn't have any extras or menus, but the better sound and video quality alone make it a worthy buy. Not to mention, you can skip to your favorite episodes.

Kris, When MTV first asked me to select episodes to include on the first home video release, no one was sure that there would be a second or third tape. Those would depend on the sales from the first. I decided to take no chances, and thought "if I had to choose only two hours of Aeon Flux to preserve for prosperity, what episodes would they be?" For me, the only tape I show anyone anymore is the untitled first tape with the red cover, which is the same as the contents of the DVD. Those episodes are my personal favorites. So my advice is, get the DVD, watch it, and if you want more, get the 2nd and 3rd tapes individually. You will then have the complete set of episodes.

For the record, the titles for the 2nd and 3rd tapes, Mission Infinite and Operation Terminus, were not devised by me, nor was I even consulted on the matter. Also, my own title for the short now known as "Night" was originally "Mirror". I'm guessing that my suggestion was misplaced by the time that short was released on the third tape, and someone at MTV came up with "Night", thinking that I'd never titled it. My decision to withhold that episode from the first tape was because in it, Trevor is seen to kill Aeon, something which seemed possible at the time of the shorts, but which I couldn't accept after the full- length episodes.

ah, that is why I like the first tape so much. I thought it was just a coincidence. For me it definitely contains the superior episodes (and shorts!)
