Nikon prices in Montréal

I am going to Montréal in the Easter vacation. Will I be able to buy Nikon camera and lenses at a price comparable to what B&H Photo offers, or should I just order from B&H?

No way!! Prices up here are at leat 15% higher than B&H. And you would have to pay provincial and federal taxes, even if later you can get back the federal tax.

Be aware that the Cdn$ is quite soft now relative to the US$. Canadian Nikon prices are slightly higher, plus there's no gray market pricing as offered by B&H and others.Comparison shopping also helps: try Vistek and Henry's in Toronto, too.Warranty coverage might also be an issue: Nikon isn't as generous as Canon with their international coverage.Canadian Nikon shoppers at B&H get no warranty coverage on their equipment back home from Nikon Canada.

Do Vistek and Henry's have the same prices in their physical stores as on the websites? What about sales tax?

Personal shopping, particularly if the purchase isn't trivial, will usually save you a few $. Henry's, Vistek and Alt Camera Exchange all deserve a call.Don't be shy about asking for a deal if prices are identical on a given item.

It is a significant purchase. I'm buying a Nikon F80, 50/1.8 lens, 24/2.8 lens, and a 105/2.8 lens. That's around $2300 on Vistek and Henry's websites.

Simply put, just do the math.Henry's makes it easy by giving prices in Cdn or US$. Go with the cheapest. B&H also gives you the option of gray market goods, something that's particularly worthwhile with less trouble-prone items like lenses. Generally, Canadian prices have been higher, exchange differences notwithstanding, though this has been improving lately on Nikon gear, prompted by lost sales to US discount dealers, I suspect.

If you are in the USA, you're better off buying from B&H. If you're in Canada and order from B&H, you'll still have to pay for taxes and shipping.

I've bought many times in montréal from a store called Photo Service. Their prices are good, sometimes matching B&H (after S&H charge) and always cheaper than Vistek and Henry's. I've also been able to order COD from them. They do have a useless website:

The problem is they are not open evenings and week-ends. They told me that this is because they don't want to hire know-nothing part-time sellers. I have no affiliation with them.

Have a nice trip!
