Hospitality, anyone? (Looking for land in WV)greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
We are considering a move to West Virginia, but don't know much about the area. My husband is taking a one-week trip in mid-May to explore the eastern portion (near the mountains). We're on a tight budget. Now here's a strange question: does anyone have a living room floor he can bunk on? He'll be self-sufficient in terms of food, sleeping bag, towels, etc., but wouldn't mind a shower.Similarly, does anyone have an old house on at least 40 acres they're looking to sell?
Any other info on the state would be appreciated. Meanwhile, I'll look in past threads.
Thanks.

Hi Patrice, we live in SE rural Ohio, around here are the cheapest land prices this side of the Mississippi, no kidding, we looked for three years before buying here!!! We wanted WV, as I am from there, but land prices, and their tax laws on stuff, were too high. This area is a good compromise as it looks just like WV and the folks are friendlier too!A great website for this area is www.swisslands.com , they have a lot of listings and their website tells all about the area here, I cannot recommend this area highly enough, we love it!!!

If he's trying out the eastern panhandle I can't help. But he may try staying at the college in Shepherdstown. That is a lovely area of the state, but please note that that is not the only area with mountains! I wish you the best.

Hey Pat, is he driving or flying? And if driving, what direction is he comming. We are in Ky, about an hour south of Louisville if he needs a stopover. Our farmhouse and 12 acres are for sale, but we are not in the mountains. I wish you luck, my family comes from the mountains in WV. Keep us posted on how he does!
