Has anyone used pour-on iverectin on goats?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I usually use a horse paste to worm my goats once a year but I have a half a bottle of pour-on cow stuff and was wondering if anybody has used it on goats. It has the same chart to do the math on the bottle ie. how much per lb. of weight so it wouldn't be hard to figure out how much to give them. We don't have cows anymore so I thought I would try to be the thrifty homsteader that I am. But I wanted to hear from you folks first. Thanks.

I forgot the "m" in IVERMECTIN. Sorry :)

Hi patti, if it is the .05% Ivermectin than you would use it orally at 4cc per 100 pounds, if the concentration is different than get back to me. Pour ons don't work as pour ons on goats, they have very fast metabolisims, and even the new Cydectin is being given orally by the larger AG departments at our Colleges. Though some Boer folks are saying they are pouring it on, they also don't do fecal samples, and according to the tests at A&M the fecal studies just didn't support the fact that they worked this way. I thought that the pour-on's were to control skin parasites, such as lice.

We used it last year as a pour on for lice.

In using these pour ons orally, I would check with the vet first! The chances of asperating these chemicals is high AND dangerous.
