Where is the AME bookstore?greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread |
I am a new member of the AME church and I would like to know if there is an AME bookstore. I have a passion for reading anything related to Black history from 4500 BC to 2001 AD. I searched the official AME website but did not find any information. I am particularly interested in the writings of Bishop Richard Allen.JazzMan

A.M.E. Bookstore
I wish I could tell you they had an online outlet where you can browse etc. but they don't, however you can contact them by snail mail or phone.
The book outlet is the Sunday School Union Printing House at 500 Eighth Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203-4181 Phone (615) 256-5882, FAX (615)244-7604.
I hope this helps. I am going to continue to urge that they at least put a list of their product online. The question you ask is one I am called upon to answer numerous times a day.

JazzMan; "I have a passion for reading anything related to Black history from 4500 BC to 2001 AD." With your voracious appetite for reading you may need a 500,000 sq.ft. library :-) Is there anything significant about 4500 B.C.E.? QED

The AMEC Publishing House may be found at the following website link. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> http://www.amecpublishing.com/index.htm >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> By clicking the emblem on this page you may browse a list of products which they have available. I don't believe they have established online ordering but you may e mail them with requests. Also some Episcopal Districts have bookstores in the Bishop's Office and many larger churches have them also.

I have a 1998 - 1999 copy of the AMEC Publishing House Sunday School Union Church and Sunday School Supply Catalog. It has in it: 1) Bibles and Bible References; 2) Resources for Pastors and Laity; 3) Resources for Teachers; 4) Church Resources; 5) Videos; 6) Children and Teen Resources; 7) Books for Adults; 8) Special Resources; and 9) Race and Black Studies. Perhaps there is a newer edition that you could request, to maybe find some of what you are looking for. The catalog is a very nice publication.

Does General Officer Barbour have an email address that anyone knows of so we may forward to him requests for online ordering of AME books, or is this a job for Rev. Fisher to add to AME-Today? :)

Thank you all for such detailed information about how to obtain AME church literature. Bill, in response to your question about the significance of 4500 BC and Black History, I am most influenced by DESTRUCTION OF BLACK CIVILIZATION 4500BC to 2000AD by Chancellor Williams and so much of the scholarship by that great Senegalese genius Cheih Anta Diop. It was Dr. Diop who initially submitted his thesis that the ancient Egyptians were an African people but it was rejected by a French university. However, he returned 10 years later with a team of anthropologists, linguists, historians, and others and they accepted his thesis. Although, the so called egyptologists, media, and historians have not accepted this fact, I am convinced by the body of evidence that I have read. The scholars in regards to documenting accurately this aspect of world history have committed the crime of "intellectual dishonesty" in their fields. As far as I am concerned, anyone who continues to deny that the ancient Egyptians were African are co-conspirators in this academic crime. I have also been fascinated by the wealth of Black history in the Old Testament from Ham, Nimrod, Queen of Sheba, General Zerah the Cushite, King(Pharoah Tirhakah 25th dynasty), Zipporah the Cushite, Ebed-Melech the Cushite, and others.JazzMan
