Coming up on March 17th is the big Heart of America Game Bird Auction. It is in Gardener, Kansas at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.  If it is poultry or game birds you can usually find it there.  They usually have a listing of the other auctions and swaps in the area for the season also.  People come from all over the country for this one.

Thanks for the info Rogo. There used to be a poultry auction around here the first Saturday of every month. The folks quit having it and boy do I miss it! I don't know if I'll try to make one that far. Has anyone here been there? How big is it?

I absolutely loved the Poultry auction near me (NJ) and I bought several chickens and ducks, and one gorgeous Plymouth Rock rooster, Ulysses. BUT the four silkies I bought all have clubbed feet, and the female duck is crippled, due to lack of proper diet when she was a duckling(not enough niacin in diet) I am not sorry though because I love them, they are my pets, I would never cull them. The silkies lay small white eggs in the summer and Gretel my duck is very lovable. Next time I will thoroughly examine before I buy. There was a reason why theses animals were there.

Rogo, been meaning to post (seems I'm always behind...). Anyway, this auction was AMAZING!! Could not believe the amount of people and poultry for sale!! My daughter and I left the house at 5:00AM, got there at 7:00, looked around for an hour and still did not see all that was available. The auction started at 8:00. We had to leave at about 3:30, and they were not even a fourth of the way done!! Can only imagine what time they finished.

Are ALL poultry auctions like this? The prices were unbelievable! I had no idea people would pay those kind of prices. Does anyone here breed and raise for auction sales primarily? Some sellers were walking away with hundreds, or thousands of $$. Guineas were selling for between 7.00 and 11.00. Regular laying hens around 8.00. Other things were in the $100's. A pair of geese (can't remember which breed) went for $800.00.

Just curious if this was normal or a fluke? Anybody have any experience with this?

BTW Brad, I got some Muscovy Ducks (one of the few things I could afford, he-he). They have already laid some eggs and am hoping they will hatch out.....Really like them so far. Thanks for the suggestion! 2 Drakes, and 4 Hens.

Thanks again Rogo for the info on this. Can't wait for the one in the fall, hopefully I will have some birds to sell.

Yep, it's amazing what folks will pay for poultry. Hundreds, up to and over a thousand ~ bet they don't free range! -LOL-

I don't purchase any type of critter at auctions. I've never had a sick chook/guinea and the vet has only seen any of the large livestock a couple of times for sickness in the many years I've had livestock. I don't want to take the chance with auction critters.
