I can not listen to the song HOW GREAT THOU ART, without being in awe and wonderment of this incredible God that loves us so dearly. How does the song make you feel? Have there been times when it has had more meaning for you? Joy in the love of Christ.

This song is a clear testament to the Majestic Character of God. I'm sure some would rank Handel's Messiah as the quintessential song of God's Majesty but for me this song beats out Handel. A brief testimony will help explain my position. When I was growing up in my home church we had an elderly woman [80ish] who routinely sang this song as a soloist. What was remarkable as I look back is her ability to keep singing it even though the key was always too high and she couldn't quite get by the 2nd stanza. But, Mother Reeves sang the song with such power and conviction and kept the congregation mesmerized. I'm grateful she did not allow elitist pianists to deter her music mission and perservered. I personally like hymns like "How great there are " because they accomplish the goal of giving God the praise he deserves. Perhaps, I am too rigid in my worship philosophy but I think that songs that don't praise God for who he is and what he has done or is doing and is going to do are not worth singing. Most of the hymns were written out of profound experiences with God. Have you noticed how the gospel hits on the radio come and go but the hymns remain? Some of these gospel hits from the past that have passed never really had any worship value. For example, we used to sing this song called " This old building keeps on leaning, I've got to find me a new home" I hated this song because it was so depressing. There is another song out there now that goes " I just want to be right". The whole song consists of these recurring words " I just want to be right" In a society where moral absolutes are supplanted by moral relativism what does I just want to be right mean? I am just curious does the minister of a church decide which songs that the minister of music can have the choir sing? I think that someone should regulate what is sung in the sanctuary?

What can I say about it, this is my favorite hymn! I think about the awesomeness of God. It causes me to look at creation and consider all that God made especially man. Finally the expectency of Christ's return and we will shout with acclamation and there proclaim MY GOD HOW GREAT THOU ART!

How Great Thou Art is one of my favorite hymns. In fact, it along with Blessed Assurance, was my mother's favorite. Everytime I hear the song played, I think of a funny childhood occurrence. My mother, who past amost ten years ago, fancied herself a great singer. How Great Thou Art was (she thought) her signature song. In any event, when I was about 9 or 10 years old, my mother was singing her solo part with such feeling and gusto. Her choir hat was attached to her wig by a meer bobby pin. When she bent back to sing "then sings my soul" the hat slid pulling her wig back. Without missing a note she grabbed the hat and wig with her left hand and continued to sing 'my Savior God to thee." So yes. The song is beautiful, and at times it has more meaning to me.
