Renee, $9.00 seems very reasonable for angora rabbits. I paid $15.00 a piece from a lady who raises them in my area. Pet stores are charging about $30.00 and their stock is very questionable. If I buy rabbits in very cold weather i put them first in my cool basement and then a small shed, before they go out to the much cooler barn. Kind of like hardening off plants. Ha HaLet me know if you have any questions. Angora rabbits can be so friendly.

I also like Angoras, but be prepared for some serious maintenance requirements. They are prone to mats, maggots, heat stroke, intestinal blockages (from grooming themselves), and just general dirtiness, because of all that excess hair. You should see the condition of some of the angoras that have been brought to our sanctuary after their owners (pet people, not fiber people) finally realized it was more than they wanted to deal with. Fly-strike is bad enough with regular bunnies...and much more likely with these furry ones. Not to be a "downer"...on the positive side, they do seem to have sweet & gentle personalities, and are certainly cute!

Angora rabbits for $9.00? Don't do it !! You get what you pay for especially from a pet store! Find a breeder and get a pet quality. You probably won't get the best wool but all the better if they are only pets. Less density to brush. What variety are you looking for? My personal favorites are the english or the german angoras(cute tassled faces) The french just have small tufts of hair on the ears. I bred and showed english angoras for years in new jersey and got out of them but am interested in getting some more. Anyone out there know any good breeders in the new england area? cara lewis cnllewis@email.com

$9 Angoras will likely not be registered but if they are healthy, they would likely make good pets. Here the going price for good-quality Angoras is usually aroudn $35 each. Much higher for those that are registered and they have won awards.
But one of my friends was at a flea market and got some beaufiul French Angoras for $5 each! The woman simply couldn't care for them any more!
Do make sure you keep them clipped, brushed and groomed. Before you buy, check their eyes and ears for any discoloration or discharge. Check their little rear ends for any signs of diahrhea. Don't put them around any other animals or rabbits for at least a week to make sure they are indeed healthy.
I don't like buying animals from a pet store unless I know the owners and know where they get their animals to sell. hope this helps.
I currently have 18 and hope to have at least three more litters of Angoras before the weather gets too hot.

I am one of those people Shannon mentioned. I had English Angoras, they are so cute & have the best personalities but I couldn't handle all that hair, I was too timid & then accidently cut my doe, I called a woman who lives nearby in tears & said come take them. And of course she had quite a mess to straighten out. But they were registered, the buck was a grand champion. They (nor any other Angora) deserves me for an owner. I love my Rex! ANYONE THAT HAS NEVER HAD AN ANGORA, START WITH ONE! BTW, $9 is too cheap, for my area anyway, I would question that? There can be a big difference in quality of fiber.

I should add i don't buy for show so my rabbit's are not registered. Caring for these rabbits is a job. I keep mine cool and groomed, if you let it go you have a mess. Start small and good luck.

i think $9 for an angora is an unbelieveable price like the saying goes you get what you pay for i would be VERY weary of the product this pet shop is selling, don't just think it's a bargin and get on with it. It could be costing you more in the long run than what it's worth believe i too got sucked in to buying cheap rabbits it has ended up costing me about $80 i then sold the rabbit for cheaper than the first price :( so think long and hard before a rabbit from the pet shop because you don't know were it has been :/ Also were can i find the show standereds?
