morgan mjpeg codec and miro/pinnacle DC30 - wow!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread |
I just wanted to put out some results that just continue to floor me.I have had the pleasure of owning a miro dc30 capture card for five years and about a month ago I got turned on to the morgan codec. I could not believe that this codec allowed me (in W98 and W2K) to run all my miro captured avi's with far better stability and cooperation with applications. Now I consider archiving all my Hi8 footage to the miro/morgan codec and creating a master library that could be easily edited and viewed on any reasonable PC. I know Director quite well so I can whip out great menus/interactivity with all kinds of mixed media. Then family members with PCs could get a great experience. I always had issues with alot of the codecs and quicktime for differing reasons but this Morgan... wow. These mjpeg AVIs go right into the encoders without a hitch too, so I feel pretty good about using it for VCD or SVCD creation. VCDs or CD-rom, DVD...SVCD - I love them all

I've just started looking at making VCD's for use in DVD players (corporate video thing) I'm a multimeida designer but what software is used to create these things? Does this morgan codec run on pc's without the miro card??Iain

Yes, If you capture with the Miro card, the resulting AVIs are playable on machines with only the morgan codec installed. I'm sure that there are some hardware considerations when the machine is obselete. As far as software - Get I-Author by Enreach, I haven't been able to find it anywhere (everyone else got it somewhere though) but it gives you full menu construction (for vcd/svcd) and is by far not perfect but a good start. You will have to learn about avi to mpeg1 or 2 encoding, and the standards required for compatability.Check out TMPEnc, avi2mpg2, Nero 5.* for burning w/out I-author. Good luck! I would also suggest reading the archive of this list - see bottom of page. Most of the work has already been done.
