In a couple of weeks I will be lecturing on Black History month at Montana State University. And my topic will be "The role of African Americans in the formation of the state of Montana in the 1800"s" My lecture will focus on Richard Allen and the AME church. By doing this I can discuss slavery, freedom after slavery, importance of the Black Church in community and of course discuss a remarkable spirit filled man, Richard Allen. My question to this discussion board, are we talking about Richard Allen in church and our communities. If we think about it, the formation of the AME church opened doors for others to follow including. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. What do you think?

My Sister, I speak of Richard Allen and other notable Americans as role models for us, both adults and children. For example, i constantly refer to the fact that Allen purchased his freedom, his work ethic, etc. You will notice that I said "Americans", not exclusively African Americans. We live in a multi-ethnic, multicultural society and I like to focus on accomplishments rather then race. Pastor Paris
