MPEG-2 file won't play in Media Player: Why?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I've been able to convert AVI files to MPEG-1 (using TMPGenc) and even make VCDs that run on my DVD player. BUT I can't seem to view MPEG-2 files that I created with TMPGenc. When I double click on the converted file, Media Player 6.0 opens but then says it doesn't recognize the format (or words to that effect).

What am I doing wrong?

I don't think that Media Player can view Mpeg2 files. Try downloading Media Player 7 from the Microsoft Windows Update site. I have no problem viewing Mpeg 2 files with MP7.

I recently found this out too. MP7 doesn't sort the problem. In fact MP6 works better, but neither works under NT or Win2k. Try using a DVD player or an MPEG 2 player. Alternatively if you're an adventurist, convert mpeg2 to mpeg1 and you can use MP
