Looking for Babydoll Southdown sheepgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Greetings from the Grange. I live in Southern Indiana on an organic farm. We are looking to buy Babydoll Southdown sheep. Is there anyone in IN. KY. IL. or OH. that have any I would like to buy a ram and two ewes or one ram and one ewe. I would like to promote this breed but so far I have just read about them and have not been able to find any close to my area.

I don't have any Grant. Hope you find some. What I would like to see is a description of them and what's good (or bad) about them. I think I'd like to have a few sheep eventually! I'm pretty sure they'd have to be on the smallish side. Anyone care to take a shot at describing them.Eventually, I will do research on the breeds, but I'd like to read what owners and would-be owners have to say. Thanks!

Here's a couple of pages from my search engine about Babydoll Southdown Sheep:http://search.metacrawler.com/crawler?general=Babydoll+Southdown+sheep&method=0&redirect=web&rpp=20&hpe=10®ion=0&timeout=0&sort=0&format=beta99&theme=classic&refer=mc-search
Don't know how these urls come across here. If your browser doesn't capture the entire url, copy/cut/paste.
And here's some pics of the cuties:

The website that Grant mentioned is a great one for miniature sheep. I have had it marked as a favorite for over a year because I, too, want to get some minature sheep. Let me know if you have any luck finding sheep in your area.

I just wanted to say that while I don't have the babydolls, I do have cheviots, and they are really sweet. They are the Breknock Hill cheviots-there are other kinds. They have soft wool if you are looking for a good breed for the wool. One of the things I do like is that their faces are not covered in wool, but clean.Oh and I have one shetland too-a moorit. She is so cute-getting kind of 'lofty' -about time to shear! I am nervous-this is our first shearing. I did find out today though that there is someone in our area who will teach us how to shear. a big relief!

I've had Southdowns for over 20 years...long before anyone was talking much about "Babydoll" Soutdowns. I've had my Southdowns Registered as both "Babydoll" and in the American Southdown Breeders Association for years now. This is only possible because I've adhered to the original breed standards. They're very efficient, relatively docile sheep. Darwin would be proud; great sheep for sustainable agriculture/permaculture. NOT great wool producers, NOT innocent avoiders of tender trees, NOT sheep who are too proud to 'wander'(as suggested by one Website); just great sheep (in my opinion), if bred the old-fashioned way.

We are breeders of Olde English 'Babydoll' Miniature Southdowns here in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Lexington, Virginia. I had a ram lamb birthing year, but would be able to supply a ewe or two. If you're willing to go down to Kentucky, why not swing over to Virginia. I raise my lambs as pets. They are handled by me from day one. I also am a spinner. Their wool is very fine and spins up nicely. I would be happy to chat with you more about these little guys anytime.

I have babydolls for sale, and am planning to deliver sheep to Wisconsin in Sept 2002. I also have Brecknock Hill Cheviots, and Sennybridge Welsh. We are going to be driving out from Nevada, so any state along the way, or in the area would be a good candidate for delivery. Look at my webpage /http:community.webtv.net/skepqueen/BeeSkepRanch>
