Larissa,Presumably, you are speaking of the man known as the Poe Toaster who, since 1949 has left a tribute of three roses and a partial bottle of Cognac on the tomb of Edgar Allan Poe on the anniversary of Poe's birth. The three roses are thought to be a respectful tribute to Edgar and the two women buried with him, his wife, Virginia Poe and his Aunt Maria Clemm, Virginia's mother. The signifigance of the Cognac remains unknown. A little more information is available at the URL: http://www.eapoe.org/balt/poegrave.htm
Ii is not my intent to appear critical or mean spirited but I trust you will put more effort into your report than you put into the question you posted. Good Luck on getting that A.
Regards,

As many, if not all of us know, Poe was a heavy drinker, and in that, his friends and family may have felt that leaving cognac in his casket would comfort them more, by giving him something that he loved. for those of you who do not know what cognac is, here is the definition, as from encarta.com: BrandyBrandy, alcoholic beverage produced by the distillation of grape wine and matured by aging in wooden casks. When freshly distilled, the brandy is clear and colorless and will remain so if kept in glass containers. Placed in wooden casks, the spirits dissolve a coloring matter from the wood and acquire a light brownish tint, which dealers often deepen by adding burnt sugar. The distinctive aroma of brandy is due to the presence of traces of higher alcohols and volatile oils. The very high alcoholic content of the raw spirits is reduced somewhat by aging and is adjusted usually to 40 to 45 percent by dilution with water when the brandy is bottled for sale.
