Chicken with breathing problemsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Hello All, I am usually a lurker, but now I need some help!I have a Rhode Island Red hen that is not feeling well. She is wheezing and having a hard time breathing. I have her separated from the rest of the flock now. She is eating well, but seems week. Any ideas how to treat this?? Thanks

it sounds like maybe she has pneumonia{sp},i would give her and all the others an antibiotic.I use tyramyacin{sp} its a powder you mix in water. It is hard to dose out w/out an automatic waterer,I make it look like lemon aid.I do not know if you can still use the eggs,or for how long it will show up in them.

Give all the chickens Tyramycin (sp) it comes in a foil envelope, you should be able to pick it up at your local feed store. Mix 1 1/2 tablespoons per gallon of water, mix fresh every 12 hours for 3 days. Give this as their only water avalible. Good Luck!!!

Your chicken may simply have worms. I had two chickens whose smyptoms were similar. One died. Then I asked for help, and was told it might be worms, treated my chickens with piperzine--and had no more wheezing, choking, and gagging.
