The baptism in the Holy Spirit was described by Jesus as being "clothed with power" (Luke 24:49). If I'm going to work for the Lord, I'd certainly want that. Could I run a church (or my life) without it? I suppose, but I'd sure hate to try. I'd also hate to try to explain to God why I don't seek something He's made available to me.

Being baptized in the Holy Spirit opens up an incredibly annointed way of life in the supernatural. I've experienced it. It makes possible the miraculous Book of Acts church. One tremendous advantage Spirit baptism brings is the gifts of the Spirit as described in 1 Cor 12:4-11. These are simply tools of a miraculous nature that only come by Spirit baptism. Consider the word of wisdom. This is the Holy Spirit supernaturally telling you a course of action that needs to be taken. Example: A pastor friend of mine was debating on whether to pull one of his children out of school in favor of home schooling. The child was having serious problems, so he told the boy to give it six more weeks. A lady in his church approached him shortly after and said, "I don't know what this is about, but God's Word to you is 'in six weeks it'll be too late'". As I said, power.

Two notes: First, I don't see anywhere in Scripture where the events in the Book of Acts were said to end with the early church. It should be our standard for today as much as it was in the 1st century. Second, just because an individual hasn't experienced something doesn't mean it's not Biblical. Millions have experienced Spirit baptism.
