I steamed/simmered the ham in cider, it was terrific. As it turned out, the oven had a re-set button on the broiler side up underneath where I could not see it, nor did I look for it. When our daighter called from California on Christmas day, she told me about it, she has a stove like ours and had the same problem once; "live and learn". My thanks to Hoot for trying to help me with several suggestions
