anyone know where to sell leathr working equipmentgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
I have a lot of leather working equipment for sale and i dont know where to advertise to the type of people who would use it. I hate for someone to buy it to part it out or destroy it.It belonged to an old shoe cobbler in our town who died about 15 years ago and has been in storage i bought so it wouldn't be trashed. there is a american leather sewing machine, a auto soler[some type of wire sewing machine] and a buffing machine that is about ten feet long with horse hair brushes on it and all types of attachments. PLEASE HELP

As a matter of fact I do know someone looking to buy leather working and sewing tools and equipment. My friend, who is a farrier, is making horse tack by hand and is seriously looking for this stuff. Can you send me a list, a price, and a contact number? I will print it out and give it to him.

My son is an apprentice to a leatherworker. He may be interested in the equipment. Could you please send us a complete list, and what you'd want for it? thanks Mary

Check with shoe repair shops. Thats where we sold the equipment that a freinds father left when he died. He didn't want to see it just rust away.

List it on eBay using the keys words of leather working, cobbler and shoe repair in the title or description. My father was a shoe repair man for about 15 years so I am familiar with most of the equipment. Don't remember a wire sewing machine. His used waxed cord to secure the sole to the shoe.

Ten years ago i bought out an old shoe repair shop, one of the machines was a "Landis" stitcher which i was able to sell to Bochstich, which is now owned by Satnley tools. a guy came from PA. (to western NY) and picked it up, paid me $1200. I had 2 Auto Solers which were useless, they nolonger use them in the trade, an 8' drive line buffer, grinder and a couple of free-arm Singer stitchers, the latter I sold to an Ahmish harness maker. I paid $350 for the whole works and sold it all for $2,200. Most of the old equipment is not worth anything to shoe repair shops but the real good stuff like the Landis is refurbished and sold in South Amreica where things are a little more primitive.

You seem to have several very interested people. Seems the best way would be to auction it off. I suggest eBay. I can help you there.

The American Straight Needle as it is called is used to sew on soles. An awl comes through and punches the hole before the needle passes through the punture. It is worth about $1500 bucks. The auto soler is a machine that is used to put on heels. The wire feeds through and gets chopped off at the desired length setting creating a wire nail. Worth about $500 bucks. The buffing machine 10 ft long is outdated and a real extinct dynasaur. You still see them in shoe shops and that's because if they are already there and in place why not use them . But to move one and set it up is not really worth it. The thing sticks out from the wall about 3 ft. and is 10 ft long....30 sq. ft of floor space . the new ones are 2 x2 on the floor with only 4 sq ft of space taken up. The different wheels slip on an open shaft on each end for versatility that used to be only afforded with a machine that had all the wheels running all the time. That machine is only worth 50 to 100 bucks. The motor is worth more than that though, go and figure. Have fun kids.

Put the wrong e-mail address down.... should be .net instead of .com

I also have a complete shoe repair shop for sale due to a death in the family. If anyone can tell me the best way to approach the liquidation of this equipment it would be greatly appreciated.
