What a refreshing article -- in praise of Slade Gorton...A True Man of Ideas

I contributed an answer to this thread. I swear I did. It was a really good one too. What happened?Anyway, that's a nice piece, Eve. I knew the name but did not know the man at all. Noonan paints a picture of a rare human being. One who is able not only to empathize, but to offer advice crafted with that person's perspective in mind. That's one helluva difficult skill!

Sorry to pee in the retirement party punch, but I live in Washington, Slade Gorton's former constituency. Let's just say that there are many folks here who just aren't Wild About Slade, and that comes from both sides of the aisle. There's been quite a bit of local snickering that Shrub Bush may ask Gorton to serve in his (possible,) administration. This ought to be interesting.
BTW, Peggy Noonan is one of the most virulently partisan "journalists" working today. I make it a point to vote against anyone anointed with her printed endorsement. Of course, this is IMHO.
