Are you a girly girl? What do you get excited about buying?
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
I am. Definitely.
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
Yep, me too.
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
I wasn't until, maybe, two months ago. Now, I'm walking into Bloomingdale's and just staring at the makeup counters. I really like nail polish, okay?Other than that, I'm all about skirts and dresses. And shaving and washing my hair daily. Smelling like violets and being a prissy girl.
I'm still tomboy-ish though, so you can't pick on me. Nya!
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
Hell no!But I have slight girly girl tendancies. *Sometimes*
Guess I can blame my suicidal tendancies on that, huh...
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
yeah. I don't know when it happened though, because I never used to be :þ I think it was sometime in between 9th and 10th grade though...lol. I still won't wear a dress or a skirt though, so I haven't been completely corrupted.
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
Not "girly"....I wear dresses more than I used to, I guess....like, dresses aren't just for "special occasions" anymore. However, I wear my safety boots with them, so I don't think that counts.
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
Yep, i'm into shoes. I have so many freaking shoes, it ain't funny. in my defense, however, there almost all running shoes of various kinds, three trainers, a pair of spikes, and a pair of roaf races. Add that to my two pairs of dress shoes and thats a lot for a guy...
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
I'm not really a girly girl. I have a nice little collection of scented and decorated candles, and a small bottle of perfume I got as a gift that I never wear. Things like dresses and makeup are my enemy.
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
i used to not care how i dressed, but then in junior year of high school i decided to at least put in an effort because i think i became more and more interested in guys.. and as soon as that happened, i started dating my boyfriend (and still current) and now i think about what i wear all the time, i have to look decent at all times and do and act exactly how katie is describing herself now.. two years since the "starting phase" and i just adapted and now i assume it to be "normal" to be a girly girl. (but i still refuse to kiss a female friend on the cheek and act all prissy, squeal and get giddy).. but that's just me..
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
Um, no. I'm just a girl in the world. That's all the you'll let me beeeeeee.
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
I can be quite girly. More recently (within the last year or so) I've embraced my more masculine, athletic side, but I have a great love of smelly stuff. Lotions, bath beads, powder, shower gel, cologne, you name it. I used to own every lotion that Victoria's Secret or B&B carried. That was when I had lots of money to throw away. Now I just have a bunch of outdated lotions that I rarely use, and I always walk into the stores looking for new ones and wishing I could buy them all.I have a decent nose, too. If someone is wearing a perfume or lotion that I know, I can generally tell. But I guess I wouldn't know it if I couldn't tell, so never mind.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
I'm occasionally a girly guy. I like nice colognes and fitted turtleneck sweaters and fashion and such. I don't really get excited about buying anything, though. Although I did go into a beauty supply store to buy hairdye yesterday and ended up buying a hundred dollars worth of hairstyling products. I have no fucking clue how that happened.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
Oh yes.All of a sudden I'm into solariums and g-strings and underwear sales -- oh my! and I've never worn makeup, but the other day I caught myself looking wistfully at a picture of this oh-so-cute little makeup kit... fuck!
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
Definitely not . . . but nevertheless, slightly moreso than I used to be. I never used to be capable of buying clothes at all, but recently I managed to spend over £100 on them in a single shopping mission. I bit the nail polish bug back in July; my fondness for certain shoes is growing rapidly; I'm actually planning to get rid of my glasses and dye my hair for the first time in the ever-nearing future; and I wear a skirt, through choice, every couple of weeks. (Still, I don't think that makes me so girly, since my Very Good Friend (male) wears one with the same frequency.) I'd still say I'm very unfeminine though - I'd never wear anything that could be considered prim, it's all punky/gothy/casual stuff.Stuff I get excited about buying: CDs. Even though I have nearly 300 now.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
oh, social constructions of gender .. how fun!i don't shave my legs with any frequency, only when i think that i'll be getting some, or when it's been so long that it gets unbearable to look at. make up is just disgusting. i mean, glitter and lip stuff, and things for your eyes can be cool on special occasions, but who has the time to put makeup on when you have to run to your 8am shift?
i wear skirts all the time, but it's almost always with my docs and with a hoodie on, so i think that's counteractive. right.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
"i don't shave my legs with any frequency, only when i think that i'll be getting some"AMEN to this. I never shave my legs. Especially in winter. And not because I'm trying to be European and cool, either. I just hate doing it and don't have the time (getting some doesn't always work as a catalyst, either).
Also amen to no makeup. Why people say they can't leave the house without makeup literally escapes me. That must be an awful feeling.
I think thongs are probably my favorite underwear item. They're great for no panty-line having, which IMO is the tackiest thing ever.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
I am NOT a girly girl. In fact, I've never been much of a girl... My [younger] sister considers me her older brother. (It's actually kinda scary if you think about it...)I get excited about buying CDs... and school supplies, lol.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
Dude! I love shopping for school supplies!
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
I love shopping for school supplies, too! And cds, etc. etc.
I wouldn't consider myself a girly girl. The last time I wore a dress was in 1999, and that was only for my brother's wedding. Before that, I wore a skirt on graduation day (in 1997) and I couldn't even begin to estimate a guess as to when the last time I wore a skirt/dress before then.
I do like to shop for clothes, though, just none of the frilly stuff (ie, dresses, skirts). I wear a little make up, but not as much as I used to, and not every day.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
I'm girly in some ways. I have lots of perfume and shower gel and powder and all that kind of stuff. I love to buy shoes and clothes. I wear skirts sometimes, but I usually wear jeans.I hate make-up, though. I never, ever, ever wear make-up unless it's for a special occasion (like prom) and someone else puts it on me. I HATE it.
I don't do my nails anymore. It chips too fast and it takes too long to get it right. I like to paint my toe nails, though.
I don't usually do anything with my hair, either. If it looks all right in the morning, sometimes I don't even bother brushing it.
I'm all for showers, though. I like to be clean. I only shave my legs about once a week, though. The only person who sees my legs during the winter is my BF, and once I realized that he can't tell when I'm hairy or not, I stopped bothering with it.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
wow, I had no idea so many girls didn't shave. wow. I shave because I like having smooth skin, and the added bonus of guys seeming to like it (it's not much of a hassle though--I have no hair under my arms and minimal leg hair. my grandma doesn't have any hair below her neck.. it's weird). As for clothes, I don't wear anything sloppy because a) it makes me feel sloppy during the day, and b) apathy about one's physical appearance, or even the impression of such, looks really bad. I like skirts and casual suits and all those nice things. But I work in an office and probably 30% of my paycheck is for sitting in a desk looking busy and helpful.
Makeup is gross--it makes my skin feel all dirty. I'm addicted to cherry Chapstick though. mmmmm. oh, I wear mascara too if that counts, but it's the clear (that Jane[?] brand's "water") kind. yeah.
maria... i love the pull-over/skirt combo! hehe. at home/school, I am as addicted to hooded sweatshirts as I am to chapstick
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
What's the point of wearing clear mascara, out of curiosity?
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
clear mascera?I think it makes your lashes more noticable.. Just by like making 'em go up and out more... sort of..
I have the blue, green, purple, and black stuff. I sort of think the clear was made for 12 year olds.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
Oh. I guess that makes sense.I personally can't stand makeup for myself. And I think girls are pretty enough when they're young that they don't need makeup. It bugs me especially when I see some 12 year old running around looking like she's a walking ad for Maybeline-overkill or something.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
I guess I'm a girly girl, to a certain extent. I can get ready for school in the morning in five minutes flat, but when I go out at night, I have to get all dolled up. And I get excited about bra shopping. It's funny how buying something as seldom seen as a bra makes you feel so good!!!
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
I think it's the thought of wearing something so sexy underneath that makes bra shopping so exciting. My friend bought a water bra a little bit ago, and she had to show everyone because it made her look so much bigger than she really is. She was going around making everyone feel it and stuff. It was kinda weird when she asked me...but it's nice that she's so excited about it.I guess you can call me a girly girl. I love make-up. I have to wear it or else I just feel ugly all day. Plus, if I don't then people will ask me if something's wrong because they're so used to seeing it on me.
Just recently I've been buying more "girly" clothes, like tight shirts and those denim jackets that are so popular. The last few years I would only wear jeans and a t-shirt. that was my whole wardrobe. sometimes I don't feel like wearing something tight because I'm having a fat day or something, and I don't want to be sucking it in all day.
Other than that, I just try to be who I am and not follow all the trends that every other girl at my school is wearing. They all dress alike. It's kind of scary.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
I rarely wear dresses, either, but I have to next Saturday. It's my sister's wedding, I'm a bridesmaid, and she didn't go for that whole "Gap khaki wedding" idea that I pitched to her. Dammit. So I'm wearing this dark, Christmasy-red type deal that I actually don't look too godawful in. So that means that I'm not due for another dress-wearing until, oh.... 2007.Coo.
-- Anonymous, December 07, 2000
i think i am. i love all the stuff: tampons, and razors, and lotion. i love my breasts, and i love shaving, especially down there. i love make up and body splashes and prom dresses. i love to try on my numerous prom dresses daily. i do that instead of my hw, and sometimes i gotta break that habit. i love thongs, and string bikinis, and push up bras. and i am sooo glad im a girl, becuase i lovvvvve electric toothbrushes.
-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000
If I dont' shave my legs they get all prickly and stab me and hurt. So I shave all the time. Plus I enjoy silky smoothness.
-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000
tampons are sooooo bad for you.
-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000
Erm, not. Tampons are only bad for you if you insert one wrong or leave the thing in for about 12 hours.
-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000
True... it's much better to just bleed all over the place. Down with that male patriarchial bullshit about managing your period. Just let it flow, baby! Right down the leg, and tell the men that if they don't like it, to go suck their own dick for a little while.
-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000
haha, there's some lovely imagery. I hate shaving, so I actually got some of that Nad's crap, but it hurt like a bitch so it sat in my room for a month, then like, went bad or something, and I ended up tossing it out.
-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000
okay. let's see -- tampons are bleached with chlorine, which can leave dioxin residues. tampons absorb not only menstrual blood, but any other kind of fluids that the vagina creates, causing dryness, irritation and swelling. you run a risk of getting infection (especially if one uses big or scented tampons) or even worse, toxic shock syndrome.
as far as eric's comment ... there are other ways of managing one's period besides tampons. there's lots of wonderful alternative, organic ways of managing one's period (the keeper, instead, padettes, re-usable cotton pads, etc).
-- Anonymous, December 09, 2000
Getting TSS from tampons is very, very rare and the only time you have an increased risk is when you leave the thing in for way too long.I hate pads, personally.
-- Anonymous, December 09, 2000
I'm partially girly. I don't wear dresses or skirts though. I had the urge to buy a skirt recently but thought better of it. maybe sometime I'll get over that. anyway, I wear minimal makeup, but I do wear it whenever I go out. I feel weird if I don't. I like the lotions and body stuff too. and well, shaving I could do without but it's a routine so I do it. I don't always shave everyday but whenever it starts to bother me which is usually every third or fifth day.as far as the tampon/pad thing. I didn't use a tampon since I got one stuck...took me an hour to get it out. TMI?!? heh. now I go for wings. wings are good.
-- Anonymous, December 09, 2000
You got one stuck? Wtf?
-- Anonymous, December 09, 2000
There are all-natural cotton, non-bleached tampons on the market. They are online and probably in any natural food/product store near you. And if tampons are drying you out, you are using one that is too large. Use smaller tampons. And even if a little tampon drying you out, then your flow must be so light you could probably just use a pantyliner.
-- Anonymous, December 09, 2000
oooh it's a looong story and very embarassing so I'll plead the fifth on it. ;)
-- Anonymous, December 09, 2000
Ooooh, I bet I know. Got drunk/high and had sex with it in and forgot about it till later, right? That happened to a friend of mine in HS. Ouch!
-- Anonymous, December 09, 2000
Somebody had sex with a fucking tampon in?Is there like, enough room in there to do that?
-- Anonymous, December 09, 2000
Well, if it's one of those mini-sized tampons and the guy has a small dick...
-- Anonymous, December 10, 2000
The vagina gets a couple inches longer when the woman is aroused, too.
-- Anonymous, December 10, 2000
well, no, okay, it's not that bad. I just angled it wrong and was afraid to just 'pull it out', so I had to inspect it to see how to get it out without ripping anything out.well, there was more to the story but that's what happened after the embarassing part.
-- Anonymous, December 10, 2000
Okay, while we're on the subject of tampons, does anybody else get really disgusted by non-applicator tampons?Ew.
-- Anonymous, December 10, 2000
Had sex with a tampon in? Shit, dude must have been small in a few areas for that one to work.Katie, I agree - tampons w/o applicators are gross, enough said.
To answer the initial question (god you people don't stay on topic), I'm not a girly-girl. It takes me 5 to 20 minutes (depending on the level of tiredness) to get ready every morning. No make-up, and minimal hair care, as well as randomly snagging clothes from either the floor or the laundry room (because if it's in the closet or a chest, I'm probably not into it). Besides that, there's literally 4 girls I get along with - 2 on a bad day.
