According to Les R. Winn's excellant book "Ghost Trains & Depots of Georgia 1833-1933" The Thomas Clyde family in 1881 continued their plans for expanding the Piedmont Air Line Route, basically to NS line East out of Atlanta going through Greenville/Charlotte, by providing finances to organize and build the Georgia Pacific RR. Former Confederate General John B. Gordon was appointed president of the GP RR. In 1882 authorization was given to begin construction of this line from Atlanta to Birmingham, passing through Bremen. In 1883 the GP RR reached Birmingham. A map in this book of the Piedmont Air Line Railroad, circa 1886, shows the line through Bremen being a part of this system. I'm sure there were a number of differant companies and names of railroads operating this line before it finally ended up in the Southern Railway camp.Hope this helps.
