Poe's older brother's name was William Henry Leonard Poe. He was born on January 30, 1807 in Boston, Mass. He died in Baltimore, Maryland on August 1, 1831, most likely from cholera. Usually called Henry, he was sent to live with his grandparents, David Poe, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth Cairnes Poe, following his mother's death in 1811. He was Edgar Poe's natural brother, not his step brother.
