Okay, so Katie and I had this whole discussion about bitchy tv characters going all nice and stuff. Well, she hates it and had this whole entry she was working on for it, but scrapped the whole thing for some reason I can't remember.Anyway, in this entry she was going to include the Grinch. Well, she has this cute little Grinchy stuffie and she likes it because the Grinch hates Christmas just like she does. But I contest that the Grinch doesn't hate Christmas, because he ends up liking it at the end and celebrating or whatever with everyone else.
So, to finally to get to the questions (1) Just like you I'm wondering where the Bitch entry is, yes? and (2) Does it not make sense to anyone else that Katie likes the Grinch for the wrong reason -- being that he does like Christmas now and she still hates it -- even though she swears he does hate Christmas? Help me out here people. Prove or disprove what Katie's talkin' about.

I would have to side with my bestest friend in the whole world on this issue... Unfortunately my bestest friend hasn't expressed his opinion on the matter yet, probably because he doesn't know about this site or anything about Ms. Katie... or he doesn't care... thus I'll think for myself for once... okay this would be the second time, but I digress, again... I shall expund (2 cent word alert!) my feelings on the matter... Liking the Grinch cause he hates Christmas is like saying you like Scrooge cause he hates christmas... The way I see it Ms. Katie must have missed the last 2 minutes and 43 seconds of the classic Chuck Jones Cartoon cause up to that point the Grinch hates X-mas and Ms. Katie's reasoning would be sound, having missed the part were the Grinch gives into the "man" or "woman"... The Grinch dislikes Xmas up till that point and even tries to sabotage this consumer's wetdream...However, there is another way to look at it. My theory is that Ms. Katie secretly likes X-mas but hides behind a facade (2 cent word alert!) of disliking xmas. Linking the Grinch seems to point in this directiopn cause everyone seems to have this misconception that the grinch is a xmas hating bastard, mainly cause they probalby missed the last 2 minutes and 43 seconds of the cartoon.
Now the third theory is this... Someone who likes the grinch might be harboring pediphiliac/homoerotic feelings. What? You might ask? Well let me put it this way... actually, I lost my train of thought here... um... yeah.... hold on a sec.. I had this all figured out...
... oh yes... The grinch lives in a phallic shaped mountain... no wait that's not right... oh screw it... nevermind... I can't remember it now... kindly ignore this last paragraph...

When you think of "The Grinch," you don't think of what he was like at the end of the movie. You think of him as the way he was during the majority of the movie... as a Christmas hater.Put another way: Let's say you've never seen the Grinch cartoon/book/movie. In your timeline, the Grinch is still a Christmas hater. You haven't reached the point in time where he has the change of heart.
That being said, I think he still hates Christmas, and is just going along with the Whos because he wants some "hoontang." But that's just me.

1. The Bitch entry is currently located at D:\2000 \november\bitch.html and is in the works.2. Exactly, the Grinch hated Christmas for a majority of the movie. It doesn't matter that he went soft at the end. The Grinch will always be known for being a Christmas-hater, no matter what happens in the last couple of minutes of the movie. If someone hates Christmas, what do people call them? Grinch. So nyah.

i have this whole new theory... want to hear it? I think anyone who says they dislike X-mas like the Grinch are copping out because they need an excuse to not buy expensive crap for other people whom they marginally care for... like that uncle who slapped your mother and was subsequently sent to the hospital cause you speared them in the knee and dislocated their knee cap but since they are family have sorta kinda have to. How did I come up with this new theory? Well think about it... the grinch stole all of the gifts and gave them back in a huge display at the end which the Whos were grateful for and acted like it was some big deal, eventhough the grinch stole the gifts in the first place, but gave them back in the end for which all the whos were grateful for... Thus, someone who says they hate x-mas brings on low gift giving expectations and thus, when they do give someone a gift it becomes an even bigger deal, even if the gift is some piece of crap. This works in the same way as having a brother who flunks all his classes and all of a sudden gets an A and gets all this praise eventhough his brother has been getting A's all along...

Jon... hands off the crackpipe, dude.
-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000
How old is Jon? He sounds like my hyperactive 14-year-old cousin...
-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000
Jon is actually 22. He doesn't smoke crack, pot, tobacco products and he doesn't drink either. He actually holds a decent job in DC (read gets paid in the 5 figures). Work just has been a taaadddddddd stressful lately, thus the speaking in third person when he should speaking in first... Have a nice day!

Golf... okay... "hoontang?" This has got to be the funniest thing you've said in a while. As for the rest of you, I think this is a worthy argument that I just don't have time to get involved in at the moment but let me just say that Spencer is selling Grinch hands... bright green gloves with looooooong pointy fingers. It's the best thing I've seen from Spencer since those Pin Art things.
Anyone looking for a good Xmas gift for me, you're money.

Jon, "5 figures" can as easily be 10,000 versus 99,999. (I'd guess the former versus the latter.) Whoo hoo. Not.

me@here.com is soooooooooo cool! I want to be just like him, a total Idot... tehehe
-- Anonymous, November 30, 2000
yeah, but what you don't see is that during the movie, the grinch pretended like he hated christmas.. but when he saw cindy-lou who.. he kinda got mushy for a second there. and the film was only like a half hour long.. so i say it's a toss up.

dr.seuss would be rolling in his grave if he heard about this film. seuss was anti-commercialism, now this character is getting the fuck merchandised out of him. fucking a, man ...
-- Anonymous, December 05, 2000
I love Dr. Suess. He's da bomb diggity, yo.
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
Maria,Was he? I mean, shit, the Cat in the Hat was commercialized FUCK ALL for years before the man took the dirt nap. I think he would have been amused by the movie...
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
It's the year 2000. You think a movie is going to come out and not be commercialized? Yeah, right.
-- Anonymous, December 06, 2000
katie,
i'm as up on my consumer culture knowledge as you are. everything is commercialized. what i meant with my post was that dr.seuss would not have been happy with all of these marketing tie-ins. "christmas is not something you buy in a store".
let's hear it for textual references.
-- Anonymous, December 08, 2000
Well, Dr. Seuss is dead. So it really doesn't matter too much what the fuck he would have thought. :)
