Well I haven't read the Cask of Amontillado, but I know that because allthe people he learned to love died (of tuberculosis) he built so much anger which caused him to write most of his poems, and stories.

I have seen and read "The Cask of the Amontillado". Although I am only 13 years old, I have been studying Poe as long as I can remember. I know, that Poe had a wealthy drinking problem, and drinking ended up being part of the story, and part of the title. I don't know when I ever saw him, in a picture when he did not look drunk and/or solemn and depressed, but of course, he had reasons.

Poe had a fear of being buried alive. During his time the dead were buried very soon after death. However, because Poe had a disease that caused him to become unconscious and appear dead, he feared that someone would believe he was dead and bury him alive. He often wrote of being buried alive in many of his works. During his time many people were buried with strings in there hands that were attached to a bell above ground. Just in case they were buried alive they could ring the bell. It was a very common fear of the time. Poe thought it was the worst possible death.
