True Story;

My cousin graduated college as a returning student a few years ago. He hed graduated with honors. Since then, he has been working as a respiratory therapist. In order to keep his job, he needs to pass a certification test. No problem, right? His test was a program on the computer. It would give him various scenerios, and he would answer them to the best of his abilities. However, he had accidently scrolled too much making him miss a question. As a result, he failed the test by three points. Considering, his academic success and work success, should he be given the benifit of the doubt, and be allowed to answer that missing question, or do you think that it was his responsibility no matter what? Why?

I think that most institutions believe that everyone knows how to work a computer, sadly that is not the case and many people suffer. Personally I am just beginning to learn now and it has taken me a long time. It is unfair what has happened to your cousin, and I feel that this should be taken into consideration. It is hard enough to have to take an important test as he did and not knowing much about computers probably made it worse. I am sure he was nervous and he should be given the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately for this type of exam they will not take it into consideration.

Considering his academic success he should be given the opportunity to take the entire test over not only that one question. Whose to say that it wasn't just that one question that caused him to fail. What if he did poorly on other parts aswell, One question is not going to cost him an entire test. Yes, he should have been more responsible in taking the test; if he looked over his answers he would not have missed it twice.

Every person should be given a second opportunity in life but unfortunately we do not always receive it. I think that your cousin should speak to the Professor and see what can be done to resolve the problem. He may need to take the test over again, or may need to do an extra credit report. Next time, he should be more careful with the test taking and review the test before he completes it. If he has an understanding Professor he has no problem, if not he is in deep trouble. I wish him luck.

Although I think that life is not always fair, the rules apply to everyone. I'm curious to know was there any way he could have prepared for this test or did he know of anyone who had previously taken the test? If he did, then I would say that it was his responsibility. Regardless of this, I think whoever was to administer the test should have notified each applicant, in advance, that their answers would be calculated from the computer.

Although, it is his responsabilty to answer all the questions sometimes people make mistakes unknowingly. His grades show that he could do the work, I don't see mwhy they wouldn't give him a second chance. Maybe this is their way of seeing who can follow directions and catch their own mistakes.Some companies do have hidden motives as to why they do the thing that they do.
