filing negative carrier

I need a very straight precise edge filed out on my negative carriers. I was going to take it to a machine shop. What do I ask them to do. Do you file top and bottom? How much? Any other suggestions. thanks carol

Here's someone who will know what you need, and do it for you:

If you want the results on the paper to have a crisp edge, and if you have a thick Omega or similar carrier, you'll also want a bevel on the upper carrier plate. About 45 degrees works fine. Otherwise the lens gives you an out of focus image of the upper edge of the cutout. Very annoying whether the carrier is opened up or not. Keep in mind that a filed carrier does a poorer job of supporting the negative so focus problems due to pop might get worse. Caveat emptor... Also, S.K. Grimes is definitely the place to start.
