Lovely aroma around our homestead, I guess we're homesteades now?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread |
Well I think we've made it finally, qualified as true, real homesteaders. WHY well the smell of our place is just lovely right now, we cleaned out the goat barn,& pen, and spread it in the backyard garden spot to be tilled in, and started two compost piles next to the garden, then we went and got our buck goat today, so we've got got ole manure comeing from the back of our house and good ole buck smell coming from the front, our windows are open, it's still 80' around here. NO the goat pen is not that close to my house but the wind is blowing UGH! LOL, hope no city folks visit us soon. Just thought this was funny. We are homesteaders I guess!

Many people think I'm a little strange but I kinda like the smell of a buck goat. Right before I go out for a night on the Town I go out to the Goat Pen and rub myself all over with a buck Goat, I figure the aroma works for him to find a mate, I just don't understand why it has not worked for me???

Yes Carol, I know that smell all to well. When we first moved out here, anytime I smelled freshly turned land from a bull dozer it reminded me of the woods here, now it is shavings/manure/buck. I am down to just a senior buck and junior buck right now, and as long as their is a breeze the place is back to smelling like the woods! We also have the ac on today, muggy and in the 80's, guess winter was just teasing us 2 weeks ago! Vicki

Well, Mark, if you do find a girlfriend that way, at least you will have something in common! Only another goat fanatic would like that scent,so you are being selective! Honestly, I really don't mind the way the bucks smell. We had a wether once that stunk so badly, that I still can't get near his collar. We butchered him, and his meat tasted like he smelled, he smelled different and worse than a buck. i know he was a wether, because I did it myself and used the knife. What I can't stand is the smell of pigs. Even when they are all cleaned up at the fair, they reek!

While I am NOT fond of Eau de Buck, I don't mind the smell of healthy manure on the garden. Just makes me think of all the nice veggies that it'll grow....and the smell doesn't last too long, anyway. Tho' pig can be rank.....

you bet Carol! My Dad is going to be here later today...they think we are the Kettle family...I am reminded, with each visit, how much they hate country, goats, flies, smell of manure, etc. You know what I find offensive sare these small feed lots where they have alot ofcattle on a very small amount of land. Just don't seem right. Theres nothing prettier than a bunch of nice, fat cattle on a spacious field!
